Chapter Four: The Bet

The stadium lights were blinding.
The roar of the crowd? Constant.
But all Micah could see was him.

Kendrick Taylor, with his jersey tight across his chest, helmet in hand, eyes locked in. Focused. Controlled. A walking highlight reel just waiting to explode.

Micah stood on the sidelines with the rest of the cheer squad, trying to pretend like he wasn’t clocking Kendrick’s every move, trying not to think about what two touchdowns and a win would mean.

The bet.
The blueprint.
The payoff he wasn’t ready for, but wanted in every damn way.

“You alright?” Jayla asked, nudging Micah as the kickoff whistle blew.

Micah didn’t look away from the field. “Yeah. Just watching the game.”

“You mean watching Kendrick.”
“Same thing.”

Jayla snorted. “You'd better stretch your throat and your patience.”

Micah elbowed her, biting back a laugh. “You’re the worst.”

“I’m supportive. I support my best friend and his poor, overworked gag reflex.”

He shook his head, but his heart was in his throat.
